From the perspective of aseptic technique, the same sterile supplies and instruments can be moved from one sterile area to another in the same patient, but only from a clean area to another clean area, clean-contaminated area, contaminated area, or contaminated area, such as from a clean anterior to posterior neck. But not from the clean-contaminated area, contaminated or dirty area to the clean area, such as from the perineal area to the clean front of the neck.
Although under the principle of aseptic technique, one sterile facility can be directly transferred from another patient's clean area to another clean area, to avoid potential other contamination and risks, staff should prepare two sets of sterile instruments and supplies. For example, when taking bilateral breast biopsies at the same time, even if both biopsy areas are clean, it is still recommended to use two sets of sterile instruments separately to avoid cancer cell planting.
