Effect of o-phthalaldehyde on gastroscope disinfection in patients with hepatitis B virus infection

Objective To investigate the effect of phthalaldehyde on gastroscope disinfection in patients with hepatitis B virus infection. Methods 218 patients with HBV infection and undergoing gastroscopy admitted to the hospital from May 2014 to May 2017 were selected as the research objects, and 218 gastroscopes were collected. According to the different cleaning methods of gastroscopes after examination, they were divided into o-phthalaldehyde group and enhanced glutaraldehyde group, with 109 gastroscope surface and gastroscope cavity specimens collected before, after cleaning and after disinfection, and RT- PCR was used to detect HBV-DNA load. Results After cleaning, the clearance rates of gastroscope surface and gastroscope cavity in phthalaldehyde group were 99 5.0% and 99 9.9%, respectively, and those in glutaraldehyde group were 99 6.4% and 99 9.9%, respectively. There was no significant difference in the clearance rates of gastroscope surface and gastroscope cavity between the two groups (P <0.05). After disinfection, the surface clearance rate of gastroscope in phthalaldehyde group was 93 .23%, which was higher than that in glutaraldehyde group (87 .01%) (P <0.05). The clearance rate of gastroscope in both groups was 100 .00%. Conclusion Using phthalaldehyde to disinfect the gastroscope of HBV patients after use, the disinfection effect is better than that of enhanced glutaraldehyde disinfection, the action time is shorter, and it has the potential to replace the enhanced glutaraldehyde.
