The five moments of hand hygiene proposed by the World Health Organization (who) include: before contact with patients, before cleaning / aseptic operation, after body fluid exposure risk, after contact with patients, after contact with patients' surrounding environment. The concept is to combine the hand hygiene indications recommended by the WHO Manual health care guidelines into the five moments of hand hygiene. This user and patient-centered approach is very simple and pays more attention to the critical moment of hand hygiene that must be carried out in the process of diagnosis and treatment.

 

"Five moments of hand hygiene" should be noted in practice: for a patient, the medical environment can be divided into two essentially geographical areas: "patient area" and "medical area". The "patient area" includes the patient and some surfaces and items temporarily belonging to him / her, such as bedside pagers, bedside tables, bedsheets, infusion tubes and other medical devices. The "medical area" is equivalent to all surfaces outside a patient area in the medical environment, such as other patients and their patient areas, and the broader medical environment.
