Abstract: OBJECTIVE To improve the cleaning quality of surgical instruments and prevent hospital infection. Methods The surgical instruments were divided into three groups for cleaning: the experimental cleaning group with multi-enzyme immersion and manual brushing followed by ultrasonic cleaning, the conventional ultrasonic control cleaning group, and the manual control cleaning group. Each group was in charge of 3 categories of cavity instruments, tooth instruments and smooth instruments. Three methods were used to detect the instrument after cleaning: subjective visual method, occult blood test, endotoxin test, and HBsAg quantitative detection. Results The pass rate of endotoxin removal on the 3 groups of cleaned instruments was slightly higher than that of the 2 control groups; the pass rate of the 3 groups of cleaned instruments was higher than that of the 2 control groups, especially the experimental group of lumen instruments was higher than that of the simple ultrasonic cleaning group; the HBsAg test of the 3 groups of cleaned instruments, dental instruments and smooth instruments were negative for HBsAg; however, the positive rate of simple ultrasonic cleaning for lumen instruments was 2.5%, and the other two cleaning methods were negative. Conclusion Ultrasonic cleaning can improve the cleaning quality of medical devices (especially lumen) after multi-enzyme immersion manual brushing, and ultrasonic cleaning alone can not completely replace manual cleaning.
